Biblical Counseling
Because Life Can Be Difficult
Biblical Counseling & Care
Life can be difficult at times, wouldn’t you agree?
What trials are you going through? Is it an illness? Loss of a job? Destructive behaviors? Financial difficulties? Addictions? Depression? Anxiety? Unplanned pregnancy? Has your marriage become stale, or worse, do you view your spouse as an enemy?
Everyone will face trials and circumstances that can feel overwhelming at some point. These challenges may be the result of uncontrollable external circumstances. For example, your annual medical checkup discloses a terminal illness with no known cure. A drunk driver collides with your vehicle, and you or a passenger is seriously hurt. The premature death of a child due to suicide incapacitates you.
Overwhelming life events can also be the result of poor decisions. Drinking alcohol to excess can cause liver cirrhosis and even blindness in certain situations. Driving over the speed limit is illegal and increases the odds of getting into an accident.
Maybe, nothing has sidelined your life, but you need guidance regarding something – you are looking to make a God-glorifying decision. For instance, a teenager asks whether or not a Christian can have a tattoo or a piercing. A high school graduate doesn’t know if they should go to trade school, college, or take a gap year. A couple is thinking of living together before getting married. An employer directs an employee to do something not illegal but morally wrong. A married couple wants to know if they can view porn to spice things up in their relationship.
No matter what you face, LRBC Biblical Counseling and Care is ready to come alongside individuals struggling with life or Christian decision-making processes. Our mission is to help individuals respond to their circumstances biblically. Ultimately, LRBC Biblical Counseling and Care is about in-depth discipleship using the Bible as our primary foundation. We desire that all Christ-followers grow in their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and witness and disciple others.
What is biblical counseling?
Biblical counseling is not psychotherapy, psychology, or therapy. Biblical counseling’s central presupposition is that God has provided everything a person needs for life – 2 Peter 1:3, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.” LRBC Biblical Counseling and Care looks to the God of the Bible and His truth to guide and restore you. God’s written word provides wisdom and hope, unlike anything the world can give.
Biblical counseling uses all Scripture breathed out by God, which is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).
The phrase “breathed out” means that although the original writers of the Bible came from different backgrounds and personalities, God the Holy Spirit directed them on what to write. Verse 2 Timothy 3:16 describes how to use the scriptures:
- Teach, Illuminate God’s doctrine, God’s truth. What does God want people to know about Him and themselves?
- Reproof (rebuke). Confront people in lvoe if living ungodly lives.
- Correct. Once sin is exposed, a person can course-change their walk by yielding to the Holy Spirit, confessing, repenting, and forsaking.
- Train. Instruct believers how to live a godly life. An illustration would be parents who train up a child in the things of the Lord; it’s affirming instruction.
