Sermon Notes
Our road trip with Jesus now takes us to a dinner party where the maneuvering of the status hungry guests prompts Jesus to tell a simple parable that gives precious insight into not only where to sit at a table, where and how to live our lives in light of the Kingdom of God.
- Application of Today’s Scripture Passage
- We live in a status hungry world filled with self-promotion. Christ-followers should be different.
- Self-promotion sets us up for failure
- Humbly working hard opens opportunities for success (Proverbs 3:34)
- Ultimate Exaltation by God
The greater point of this parable has little to do with advancement in the office or society- The exaltation is from God – He is the host of the party we’re at
- His exaltation is given to those who humble themselves before Him (James 4: 10)
- These are the poor in Spirit who received the Kingdom (Matthew 5: 8)
- To exalt oneself is to refuse to humble oneself before God
- Jesus is God’s means of exaltation
- Through the cross…
- We are presently seated with Christ, will receive immeasurable riches of His grace (Ephesians 2: 4-7)
- The exaltation is from God – He is the host of the party we’re at
