Sermon Notes

Our road trip continues, and we’re back on the subject of money and material things, and Jesus’ advice to His disciples is simply this – don’t worry!

Don’t worry! Rejoice in the goodness of God!

  1. Don’t worry about basic needs – do what truly matters
    1. Life is about more than material needs – we need an eternal perspective (verses 22-23)
    2. God knows we need these basic things (verse 3) and will provide
      • Consider how He provides for the birds and flowers (verse 24, verses 27-28)
      • Focus on what matters, God’s Kingdom these things will be added (verse 31)
  2. Don’t worry about basic needs – worrying doesn’t help anyway
    1. Jesus doesn’t want us to live in a state of anxiety – He brings (us) peace beyond understanding
    2. Worrying is pointless – it can’t add anything to our life (verses 25-26)
    3. Anxiety is a waste of time – it gives the illusion of control and tempts us to waste our energy on something pointless
  3. Don’t worry about basic needs – God has given us His Kingdom!
    1. It is God’s good pleasure to give us the Kingdom (verse 32)
    2. This is the big picture, why we shouldn’t fret over the things of daily life
      • God delights in giving us the big picture benefits through Jesus Christ – eternity and salvation
