Five to Thrive
A Building Up Ministry
In Pursuit of God
Five to Thrive is the Lake Ridge Baptist Church playbook for pursuing God. It summarizes the essential practices that Christians have used for 2,000 years to grow in the Lord.
The elements of Five to Thrive are:
- Worship God
- Grow in Community
- Practice Personal Spiritual Disciplines
- Serve God
- Share Your Hope
Worship God
Five to Thrive begins at the center with worship. Worship is at the heart of Five to Thrive, and worship should be at the heart of everything we do.. we do all to the glory of God.
We worship because God created us to worship. Worship isn’t coming to church at a particular time – that’s just when we worship together. Worship isn’t a noun – it’s a verb – an action we must each choose to take.
We worship publicly, alongside others, not alone, gathering in a place to worship whether it’s a church, a park, or a home.
Grow in Community
Ah-Lay-Loan is a Greek word that appears in the New Testament 100 times, 47 of those times giving instructions to Christians. It means “one another.” Ah-Lay-Loan describes how we’re supposed to live as followers of Christ – in close relationships within the church so we can do many things for and with one another.
We were made and are commanded to live in community – Ah-Lay-Loan, not all alone.
At Lake Ridge Baptist Church, we want everyone to live a life of Ah-Lay-Loan. Here, we offer Thrive Groups to help make this possible.
Practice Personal Spiritual Habits
The path to Christian maturity and godliness involves practicing biblical spiritual habits – activities intended to help us become like Jesus (to just to feel good about ourselves)…activities described in the Bible itself.
Spiritual Practices/Disciplines include:
- The Bible
- Reading It
- Studying It
- Meditating On It
- Memorizing It
- Prayer
- Journaling
- Silence & Solitude
- Fasting
- Giving
Serve God
Serving is near and dear to Christ’ heart. He taught and modeled it to us. Mark 10:45 says, “For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
To grow more like Christ we must engage in serving as a habit from the right heart. There’s no exemption for age or ability. There’s no unemployment or retirement from serving God. Every Christian of every age has spiritual gifts. Christ expects us to use them!
Share Your Hope
Christ expects each of us to evangelize, though not all with the same methods. While God clearly gifts some people specifically as evangelists, He expects EVERY Christian to be willing and able to share the Gospel. Sharing the Gospel must be a habit, because it’s difficult, a bit scary, and requires intentionality.
Don’t worry, you are not on your own! Take a class or participate in a workshop or study focused on sharing your story and sharing God’s story.
