Lesson Notes

Pastor Brian is absent tonight. Many thanks to Dallas Hill for tonight’s lesson.

Know Before You Go:

  • Christ continues to demonstrate His authority
  • Christ’s healing abilities are about to be put on “display.”
  • Christ’s ministry wasn’t just a public display.

Jesus Heals Peter’s (Simon’s) Mother-in-Law (Mark 1: 29-31)

  • Yes, Peter was married.
  • Jesus and His disciples had left the synagogue and were preparing to eat a Sabbath meal at the  home of Peter and James.
  • Jesus was immediately taken to Peter’s mother-in-law who was suffering with a fever.
  • In an intimate environment, Jesus healed her.
  • This is Jesus’ first recorded physical healing in the book of Mark.

Many More are Healed (Mark 1: 32-34)

  • At the Sabbath’s end (sundown), the entire town lined up at the home of Peter and James; bringing with them their sick and demon-possessed.
  • Physical ailments were healed.
  • Demons were cast out; again, Jesus forbade the demons from revealing His identity.

Jesus Seeks Solitude (Mark 1: 35-37)

  • After a long night of healing, Jesus awakes before sunlight and departs for the wilderness.
  • He uses this time alone to pray to the  Father.
  • Discovering Him “missing,” the disciples search for and find Jesus.
  • They appear confused at His disappearance.

Jesus Departs Capernaum (Mark 1: 38-39)

  • Jesus begins to spread His Message.
  • “Let us go into the next towns…”
  • Jesus moves throughout Galilee, casting out demons
