Know Before You Go:
- Christ continues to demonstrate His authority
- Christ’s healing abilities are about to be put on “display.”
- Christ’s ministry wasn’t just a public display.
Jesus Heals Peter’s (Simon’s) Mother-in-Law (Mark 1: 29-31)
- Yes, Peter was married.
- Jesus and His disciples had left the synagogue and were preparing to eat a Sabbath meal at the home of Peter and James.
- Jesus was immediately taken to Peter’s mother-in-law who was suffering with a fever.
- In an intimate environment, Jesus healed her.
- This is Jesus’ first recorded physical healing in the book of Mark.
Many More are Healed (Mark 1: 32-34)
- At the Sabbath’s end (sundown), the entire town lined up at the home of Peter and James; bringing with them their sick and demon-possessed.
- Physical ailments were healed.
- Demons were cast out; again, Jesus forbade the demons from revealing His identity.
Jesus Seeks Solitude (Mark 1: 35-37)
- After a long night of healing, Jesus awakes before sunlight and departs for the wilderness.
- He uses this time alone to pray to the Father.
- Discovering Him “missing,” the disciples search for and find Jesus.
- They appear confused at His disappearance.
Jesus Departs Capernaum (Mark 1: 38-39)
- Jesus begins to spread His Message.
- “Let us go into the next towns…”
- Jesus moves throughout Galilee, casting out demons
