Sermon Notes

Our exploration of LRBC’s 2020 Vision continues as we turn to the pillar of Reaching Out, which could easily be the scariest for many faithful believers in Jesus. Peter however has some very helpful guidance on how to faithfully reach out in post-Christian 21st century America in a way that any Christ follower should be able to do.

  1. We Should EMBRACE CHRIST, Especially in Difficult Times
    1. As individuals, or as a church reaching out, we may experience persecution – there’s blessing in that (verses 13-14)
    2. The cure for anxiety, fear, and being troubled by the world is to embrace Christ in your heart (verse 15)
    3. That’s the foundation of the Reaching Out pillar – that we’re compelled by our love of Christ to share the gospel without discrimination
  2. We Must Be Ready to EXPLAIN CHRIST at All Times
    1. We should all be ready to explain the reason for our hope (verse 15)
      1. We should know why we have certainty of salvation – the death and resurrection of Jesus, the sealing of the Holy Spirit
    2. But explain Him with gentleness toward the one asking and respect toward the Lord
  3. We Must EMBODY CHRIST Every Time
    1. We must live the Gospel, truly embodying the Gospel
      1. People crave authenticity – today, just like 2000 years ago
      2. Live with a good conscience, that we have nothing to be ashamed for before God (verse 16)
    2. As we walk the path of Christ, we may experience what He did
      1. Rejection, suffering, humiliation, even death
      2. But better to suffer for doing right than doing wrong (verse 17)
