Our survey of the New Testament church is coming to an end – having spent ten weeks looking at the past, we’ll spend these last two weeks looking forward to our future in heaven. If we understand the Great Commission to be the mission of the universal church, then this week’s passage can be viewed as the vision of the universal church – the perfection and completion of the Great Commission.

Sermon Notes
As is true for many things in Revelation, good thoughtful Christians can disagree on matters of interpretation, such as who the multitude are (the 144,000). Rather than try and tackle those controversies, let’s focus on what we can say for certain. We can appreciate this passage for what it is – a beautiful description of the church at its most perfect:
- The Perfected Church has Multiplied
- The Perfected Church is Diverse
- The Perfected Church is in the Presence of God and Jesus
- The Perfected Church is Washed Clean by the Blood of Jesus
- The Perfected Church is Victorious
- The Perfected Church is Unified
- The Perfected Church is Worshiping
The church will be perfected – we see it in this passage. The Great Commission will be completed. The question we must ask as we prepare to seek God’s vision for our church is, what is LRBC’s role in the Great Commission – will we stand perfected in the last days?
