This week’s passage gets to the heart of what makes Christian hypocrisy so ultimately foolish and destructive. Paul reiterates the fundamental lesson of Jesus that we will eventually reap what we sow. We cannot sustain a lifestyle disconnected from our professed beliefs without devastating consequences. Rather than piously holding a Bible on Sunday morning while happily wading in the mud and muck of worldly pursuits the rest of the week, true joy and blessing comes when we live lives of genuine integrity, in which we live by the principles we proclaim.
