In the book of Genesis, a messenger of God finds the young mother Hagar with her son in the wilderness, and he says, “Hagar – where have you come from? And where are you going?” It is a question we should ask of ourselves at periodic intervals in our lives, and it is a question our Lake Ridge congregation is currently pondering, “Where have we come from? And where are we going?”
Bill Wilson of the Center for Healthy Churches is renowned for helping churches to address these questions. While other consultants focus on solving all of the problems in a church congregation, Bill uses a different tact. The focus is on the good things, not the bad things. What are we doing right? And in the spirit of that messenger’s question posed to Hagar, the first initiative involves a look back before looking forward.
The congregation and community of Lake Ridge Baptist Church will be convening for three town hall seminars with Bill Wilson. The first will occur on Sunday morning, September 11. We will start the morning off at 8:45 am with a joint worship gathering in the Sanctuary. We will move to the Fellowship Hall afterwards for a continental breakfast (children will go to Sunday School where they will enjoy snacks and lessons and activities). At 10:15 am we will begin our first Town Hall Session.
This is an important step in the Visioning Process and the entire congregation is encouraged to be a part of this discussion.
Goal: To know and do the will of God in our lives and in the life of the church for His glory.
This is a spiritual, not a management, process – we are seeking God’s will for Lake Ridge Baptist Church. We are using an approach of “Appreciative Inquiry” and focusing on what LRBC does right, not on the problems.
The entire church is called to be a part of this process. The summer months will be used to prepare us through study and prayer.
